Accidents are bound to happen eventually. We do our best to avoid any damage to our cars, but things happen. Bumps and scrapes can’t start to add up, but everything will be fine if you can just take care of the most vital parts. Risk is minimized as much as possible to keep our car healthy and happy.
Tires are one of the most important parts of any car, yet they are usually at the most risk. Every road is full of hazards and our tires are usually the first thing to meet those hazards. Our tires are tough, but it only takes one nail or sharp rock to ruin things. Patching and plugging tires are fairly common repairs. The real question is when is it too big to patch?
When You Shouldn’t Patch a Tire
There is nothing that can deflate your mood more than finding out you have a flat tire. It is annoying to find regardless of if you’re at home or on the road. So, when can it be repaired and when do you need to replace it. The first step is to try and identify where the leak is coming from and what caused it. If it is a small puncture in the tread area, then you can likely repair it. A puncture in the sidewall of your tire cannot be repaired, though.
Multiple punctures are also a good sign that you need to replace your tire as well. If you have a sealant of tire plug, then you might be able to repair your tire on the fly. These are great tools to get you moving again, but they are not an ideal fix. Once your car is running thanks to these kits, then you should get it replaced as soon as possible.
